Needed 200 mentors/facilitators ASAP!
If you or someone you know would like to make a difference in a middle school students' life, we need professional leaders to mentor/facilitate a group of 6-8 Battle Creek Middle School girls and boys. 

Honoring Leaders of Tomorrow Mentoring Circles Program
Join successful leadersfrom a multitude of organizations to mentor and facilitate middle school girls and boys once a month, beginning in October 2010 thru May 2011, 7:15am - 9:15am.  Battle Creek Middle School (BCMS) is a highly effective and successful title 1 school separated into a Girls Academy and a Boys Academy, located in East St. Paul, MN.  The 860 students are 85% students of color; many are living at poverty level. 

The purpose for Honoring Leaders of Tomorrow Mentoring Program is to enable middle school students to learn from successful leaders how to develop positive leadership and life skills to enhance student achievement and build strategies to create a life-giving future.

Time Commitment
  • 1 meeting per month for 2 hours
  • Program runs from October 2010 - May 2011(See below for exact mentoring dates)
  • Time: 7:15am - 9:15am
  • Career Day - Wednesday, September 8, 2010 8am-11am (NOT mandatory, but if you would like to present please let Sabina know by September 3, 2010 and we can send you more detailed information)
  • Mentor and Teachers Team Building - Tuesday, September 14, 2010 2:30pm - 4:30pm (Mentors are requested to attend this meeting)
Mentor/Facilitator Expectations
  • Build community within your mentoring circle
  • Reinforce personal leadership and full participation
  • Acknowledge small and large changes
  • Reinforce the need to study and need to go to college
  • Expect each mentee to end the year with a success plan
  • Enjoy the process
Mentor/Facilitator Qualifications
  • Experienced leader of direct reports and teams
  • Respected as a leader within your organization
  • Committed to building and expanding community across cultures
  • Invested in the growth and development of mentees and themselves
  • Committed to making a great difference for middle school students at school and for their future

Profile of Middle School Mentees

  • 85% students of color, with many living at poverty level
  • Students with a full range of experience, abilities and awareness
  • English is a second language for some students
  • Many students are from a 1 parent families
  • BCMS is a Title 1 school (to learn more about BCMS, please go to www.bcms.spps.org)

Mentors Can Expect the Following from Honoring Women Worldwide (HWW)

  • Training before your first meeting with the students (dates to be announced)
  • Opportunity to meet with the teachers, other mentors and a tour of the school on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 to get acquainted and do team building
  • Monthly agendas and a plan of action to ensure consistency and outcomes across the student body
  • Mentoring packet
  • Teachers will be in the room at all times to provide support and assistance
